Before jumping into everything else, take a moment to think, what represents your email marketing goals? What do you indeed want to achieve through email marketing? Who are you targeting? What will you include in your content?
Don’t just think about creating content and sending emails. This will not lead you to success. Develop goals, plan and then execute. An email should be an essential component of every digital marketing plan because of its effectiveness in driving conversions and building brand loyalty.
Your email goals should be taken into consideration with your company’s overall marketing goal and should be measurable. Some examples of email marketing goals:

You can’t do email marketing without an email service provider. I mean imagine if you had to email 1,000 subscribers from your personal email account? Crazy, right? And almost certainly illegal, so don’t do that.
Fortunately, there are lots of great email marketing software that will make your work a whole lot easier to send out your weekly newsletter. There are many email service providers but the one I’ve used and will highly recommend is ConvertKit.
This is personally my favorite email service provider. The biggest mistake a newbie makes is to start with a FREE Email Service provider. The reason not to go with these free services is:
- Poor or no customer service.
- Affiliate links are not allowed, which makes tough to generate income from the email list.

ConvertKit has a lot more bells and whistles. You can accomplish a lot more with it and it was made with bloggers in mind, and it’s unusually good if you want to create automated sales funnel sequences. But you have to pay for it, even if you only have one subscribe, the emails are less pretty and it’s less easy to send out an automatic email based on your blog posts.
It’s also perhaps a litter to set up in the beginning. Having said that, I think once you’ve learned how to do it, it’s easier to run in the long run. And you can develop amazing things with automated sequences, landing pages, sales funnels, and content upgrades.

1. Start Early! It’s a practical piece of advice that you’ll need if you want to be an effective email list builder. The sooner you start, the sooner this compounding can begin, and faster you’ll be able to build the list that you want.
2. Start with whom you know! Share your content with people who already know you like family, friends, colleague or people from your social network. Then propose them, if they like what you offer, to subscribe to your blog and share with people in their network. Don’t force them. Please don’t do that and don’t even spam them with regular messages. Also, sending emails 2 – 3 times a week is enough and that leads to higher ROI.
3. Build a great blog! Almost any type of industry can build a blog. The best way to build a list of email subscribers is to offer unparalleled blog content. This serves as a way to deliver people into your site as well as an incentive to subscribe (to receive future content updates or exclusive content).
While content may take some time to develop, but it’s worth it. Once complete, be sure to add multiple call-outs for an email subscription on your blog, including newsletters, sidebar form, email campaigns, signup forms or many more.
4. Include an opt-in incentive! The people who don’t like sharing their personal information for free by offering something valuable in exchange for signup also known as a lead magnet.
Many online marketers offer a free ebook download or a whitepaper in exchange for your email information. You may be able to offer a free trial, free sample or discount that would encourage them to your email subscription.
5. Ask them to share! Social sharing is powerful. For example, adding a “share” feature in the body of your email content can increase click-through rates by 158 percent or more.
However, sharing isn’t merely about getting more email subscribers to engage with your content, it’s also about getting more people interested in becoming subscribers.
Imagine someone shares a feature of your email, like a coupon code or a piece of content. All of his or her social contacts will see this message.

You might be thinking of going and getting thousands of email subscribers either for a relatively small amount of money or even for free. Ya, there are these kinds of people available on the internet.
But don’t do that. Buying email lists is not a good idea. Let me tell you why.
Most of the subscribers are old or fake email addresses, and the few who don’t probably aren’t interested in your services. Along with the possibility of getting flagged as a spammer. Also, nearly 100 percent of the time, you rarely get what you pay for.

- Welcome email – When someone subscribes to your email list it’s important to introduce yourself or your business. To build a relationship with readers it’s a good idea to talk about what your blog is about, share popular content, give freebies or discounts and tell them to connect with you on social media.
This will not only nurture your relationship with your subscribers and turn them into potential future customers. How to create welcome email through ConvertKit:
- Go to Sequences > New sequence > Create a sequence.
- Your first email is your welcome email. Change “when to send” to immediately.
- Say thank you, drop a link of a freebie and let them know you plan on sending them more cool stuff later.
- Opt-in email – If you are providing high-value content, people would like to visit your blog again and it will be easier for them if they sign up for the email newsletter.
Simply creating some opt-in freebie to attract readers to sign up to the email list, is the easy way to collect email subscribers.

- Remove inactive subscribers. Yes, remove subscribers who are inactive for long time and don’t engage with your emails. It will help you build an email list with super active and engaging subscribers.
